Overgrowth of piercings - what you need to know!

Do you want your piercing to grow back and can't wait? Or: You definitely don't want your piercing to grow, but you need to take it out for a while for a specific reason? In this blog post we will tell you everything you need to know about piercing piercing canals.

Are you taking out your piercing? You should know that
In general, it can be said that healed piercing canals grow together more slowly than piercings that have not yet healed. So you shouldn't take out your piercing during the healing process if you're not sure you want it to grow together.

Piercings take different amounts of time to grow together
It is not possible to say in general how long it takes for a piercing canal to grow together again. On the one hand, this process varies from person to person, and on the other hand, it depends heavily on the region of the body. A cartilage piercing (nose piercing) grows together much more slowly than, for example, a mucous membrane piercing (tongue piercing). With a tongue piercing, the puncture canal can grow so large within a day that you have problems putting the piercing back in. However, removing the piercing for a few hours, for example for a job interview or grandma's birthday, should usually not be a problem.

Have you lost your piercing and no way to quickly reinsert it?
On the go it can happen that you lose your piercing, don't have a replacement piercing with you and there isn't a piercing studio nearby. In such situations you can help yourself as follows:

  • Put an earring in the piercing hole for the transition period, that's better than nothing. Please note, however, that the wound channel may have to be expanded slightly later by the piercer if the diameter of the earring is smaller than your piercing. Please disinfect and clean the earring as best as possible!
  • If you only lost one ball of your ear piercing, tape the bar or ring in place. If you lose the ball of your ear piercing in your mouth, push the bar through without securing it and go to a piercing studio as soon as possible.
  • Here's how you can avoid such situations: Always take a small bag with you in which you have a disinfected replacement piercing. You can, for example, put this in your wallet so that you don't forget it.

Has your piercing grown together yet? Try it carefully!
If you want to test whether you can wear your jewelry again without any problems after a break, you should follow the following basic rules:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly beforehand.
  • Be sure to use clean, preferably sterile jewelry.
  • Don't try too often or too hard.
  • Stop when you start bleeding.
  • If you have problems inserting the jewelry, be sure to contact a piercer!
