Depending on where on the body the piercing is to be pierced, there are different things to consider. The following article explains what these are and what techniques the piercers use in their work.

In the traditional sense, piercing is understood to mean piercing the skin with a sterile needle, also known as a venflon. After the needle is removed, a small plastic tube is left in place. This is then exchanged for the first piece of jewellery. 

However, some people also opt for the so-called punching. This technique uses a needle that is hollow and has a flat tip. This special needle shape is used to completely punch out or remove tissue from the puncture channel. 

Another popular piercing technique is surface piercing. These are also known under the terms surface piercing and skin piercing. As their name suggests, these sit on the surface of the skin, which means that the puncture and exit channels are on the same level. 

A special form of surface piercing is the dermal anchor. The piercings are placed below the surface of the skin. Miniature implants are used, which have the shape of a small plate, which in turn has a vertical internal thread. In the first step, a round opening is punched into the skin, into which the implant is then inserted.
