Piercing jewelry: materials and their advantages and disadvantages

When it comes to piercing jewelry, the choice of material is crucial for healing and comfort. Each material has its own advantages and disadvantages. We have listed them all here:

Titan is particularly popular because it is hypoallergenic and suitable for almost any part of the body. It is light, very robust and corrosion-resistant, which makes it the first choice for people with sensitive skin. Bioplast is also a great alternative, especially for allergy sufferers. It is flexible, light and can be worn in most cases without causing irritation. Small disadvantage: titanium is usually a bit more expensive than other materials.

Stainless steel (especially surgical steel) is also a common choice. It is durable and relatively inexpensive, but it can cause allergic reactions in some people. Make sure it is 316L stainless steel, which is safe for piercings. Please note that stainless steel can cause irritation to sensitive skin and it is not as corrosion-resistant as titanium.

Gold is often used for jewelry that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also has a lower chance of causing allergic reactions. However, the gold content should be high enough to avoid nickel. In our online shop, for example, we offer piercings with 18-carat gold. You can find them here

Silver is beautiful and shiny, but not suitable for all piercings as it can easily oxidize. Sterling silver (92,5% silver) is better, but it should only be worn temporarily. Disadvantages: Silver can tarnish and cause allergic reactions, especially in people with nickel allergies, as it is often alloyed with other metals.

plastics like PTFE are flexible and therefore ideal for the healing phase. They are also hypoallergenic and have the advantage of being easy to clean.

We have jewelry made of all these materials to make it easier for you to find the perfect piercing for you and your skin.
